Pediatric eye exams are a critical part of vision care for kids, but if you've never scheduled one for your child before, don't worry. It's not uncommon for kids to not schedule their first appointment with an optometrist until they are unable to see the same things that their friends can see. At Athens Family Vision Clinic, we have provided residents of Athens, GA, with reliable family eye care services for many years.

Pediatric Eyeglasses

Eye Exams

It's generally recommended that children get an annual eye exam. At that eye exam, each child is screened for a variety of eye conditions and diseases. Even if a child has not shown any symptoms of myopia or other vision problems, it's still a good idea to have their vision checked regularly.

Eyeglasses for Children

If a child needs to have their vision corrected, it's best to do it as soon as possible. The start of the school year is a good time to have them checked because it is often possible for them to perceive vision changes from what they remember seeing at the end of last school year. For example, many children know that their vision needs correction when they arrive in their new classroom unable to see the board at the front of the room.

If the eye doctor determines that your child needs glasses, he or she will prescribe the exact type of lenses they need. As soon as you have that prescription, you will need to find frames to fit your child. Fortunately, at Athens Family Vision Clinic we have hundreds of styles for your to choose from. If your child is interested in contacts, our eye doctor will assess your child’s eyes to determine whether or not contact lenses will be appropriate.

You may also want to talk to the eye doctor about other options for myopia control. New options, such as eye drops that can slow down the progression of myopia, are now available. These drops are a great way for kids to freeze the progression of their myopia, essentially ensuring that they will not need intense medical intervention for their eyes in the future
